D16's Response

Well according to the comments in the Day 16 challenge, my husband would have you believe he grunts. I believe, if he grunts at all, it is only in an effort to get a word into my constant rambling. A grunt is about all I afford him sometimes. Interrupting, talking over him and assuming what his response will be (and telling him that part too) all negate his desire or ability to communicate with me. I've been made very aware (perhaps the prodding of the Holy Spirit) of how much I do this lately and am taking steps to just sit quietly to see what WonderMan has to say. I've noticed that sometimes he's quiet and then lo and behold, sometimes he actually wants to talk!

We talked about this last night at dinner and we shared how we each have topics of conversation we wish the other were passionate about as well so we could have a lively conversation. Unfortunately, his eyes start glazing over after I start talking about scrapbooking or craft fairs and mine do the same when he brings up the possibility of alien life form. Luckily, we're both good listeners so even if the conversation isn't fantastic on both ends, we're still communicating by shaking the glaze off our eyes and nodding (even if it's with feigned interest).

Also, e-mom over at Chrysalis posted yesterday on this similar topic of communication inside marriage. If you're looking for some suggestions and advice on how to get your man talking, check it out!

Scrapbooking and alien life forms... lol! For us, it's similar: sewing and Star Trek re-runs. You are well on your way, friends. Thanks for the mention. :~)
